Vedauwoo (including Blair) is officially open on MAY 15th (2006)

User fees are $5.00 per day per car for a drive in pass, or get a Season Pass from the US Forest Service (unequivocally the best deal around!!) by sending a check for $30.00 to:  U.S. Forest Service, Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest, 2468 Jackson Street, Laramie, WY 82070 (tel: 307-745-8971).  Season Passes may be available at the USFS Kiosk at Vedauwoo.

Of course you can always park outside the gate and walk in for free.

Dispersed camping is free except where expressly prohibited.  Vedauwoo is designated as a "White Arrow Management Area",  meaning you are supposed to camp within a maximum of 200 feet of any road.  There is a use fee campground ($10 per night) within the central area with 50 semiprimitive sites including access to water and heads (not showers).  There are three other USFS campgrounds close to Vedauwoo as well as camping at Curt Gowdy State Park on Happy Jack Road.  Laramie, a university town with all amenities and a population of about 30,000, is only 18 miles west.

*NOTE BELOW:  Road closures are also closing previously impacted, popular campsites !

~S h o o t i n g    B a n~

There is a ban on the discharge of all firearms, including air and gas powered guns and paint ball guns,

from March 31st through September 10th according to 36CFR261.58.  Take notice of this as it is enforced and the fine is $5,000.

~Road Closings, Restricted Areas~

Several roads accessing great climbing formations like the Valley Massif and the Reynold's Complex  have been closed off in recent years due to a variety of reasons such as (but not limited to) misuse (destruction of fragile marshes and fencing by 4 wheelers) and lack of maintenance funds.  The most noticeable closure in 2000 was Road 700D to the Reynold's Complex and Devil's Playground. Several other roads are being watched closely.  You can still hike in to these more remote areas, it just takes more time.

If you see negligent activity, please report it!

*The road providing access to the south side of the Nautilus has been closed off (May, 2001), as well as all spurs along Road 700 for about a mile further east.  This has eliminated a considerable number of popular dispersed campsites, so plan on going elsewhere.
